One of the most highly anticipated cultural and religious celebrations of the year, St Patrick's Day is celebrated in the majority of the countries all over the world.
However, nothing ever tops Dublin's celebration of the event. Hosting the St Patrick's Festival from the 15th - 19th March, with a variety of different events to celebrate the life of Saint Patrick.
Traditions and Celebrations
There was a time when St Patrick's Day was celebrated more outside of Ireland than in. In fact it wasn't until the 20th century that it was deemed a bigger celebration in Ireland than anywhere else.
The country lays host to a variety of street festivals and carnivals as well as music performances. As well as the entertainment, everyone also dresses in green - The colour green has been associated with Ireland since at least the 1640s, when the green harp flag was used by the Irish Catholic Confederation.
St Patrick's Festival
The first St Patrick's Festival was in 1996. It became a three-day event in 1997 and then became a four-day event in the year 2000. Eventually the event became a five-day festival in 2006.
An estimated 675,000 people attended the 2009 parade and over 1 million people visited the festival over the five days.
With the festival proving so popular it is often hard to find accommodation for the entirety of the five days - many people choose not to stay for the whole event, however this results in them missing big parts of the entertainment.
One way to ensure you can stay for the entirety for the St Patrick's day festival is to hotel switch. Also known as 'split stay' or 'hotel hopping', hotel switching is where you stay in two hotels for cheaper than staying in one.
Hotel switching allows you to save money because of hotel's pricing strategy for their rooms. Each room has different prices at different nights - based on demand.
Hotel switching allows you to stay in a hotel room for it's cheap nights and then move to another hotel when the rooms price increases - you only have to switch once to see the rewards.
As well as saving money, hotel switching also unlocks more availability for your stay, which is fantastic for events like the St Patrick's Festival.
The conventional way to book a hotel will only show you a hotel that accommodate you for 100% of your stay - switching will give you more options for you to choose from as well as giving you options for all five nights of the St Patrick's Day Festival.
